Learning outcomes
The objective of this course is to introduce the basic philosophical issues of ethics in regard to politics. An attempt will be made to define (historically as well as systematically) the concept of ethics or moral reality and its relevance to politics. That knowledge will provide the basis for various special ethics. The theme will be the basic position of ethics in antiquity (Sophists, Plato), its reception and amplification in the periods following until the present days (new concepts of ethics especially after the political crisis of the 20th century). Special attentions will be paid to conceptions of political liberty and action by H. Arendt.
Students will encounter selected texts from the recommended literature and will be able to formulate philosophically erudite questions that identify contemporary problems of ethical nature.
