Learning outcomes
|
In this course, students will encounter the mediaeval way of thinking, the conceptions of various thinkers, schools, or orders, and will learn about the discussion between proponents of these particular conceptions and their reception in the history of thought.
Besides gaining an ability to explain and precisely articulate the problems of mediaeval ways of thinking and its contemporary perception, students will also gain knowledge about the basic terminology that is connected with these ways of thinking. They will learn to read and analyze highly abstract philosophical texts. They will also learn to discuss topics and to report on their reading assignments. Critical thinking will be developed through writing.

Credit will depend upon attendance at lectures, a written essay from the recommended literature (five pages long), and an understanding of the topics dealt with during the lectures and in the literature.
