Course content
Subject introductory. Cultural heritage protection of preferential items in Egypt and Mesopotamia. Cultural heritage attitude in Ancient Greece and Rome periods. Cultural heritage admiration in ancient time. Renaissance cultural heritage protection. Cultural heritage protection in Age of Reason, classicistic and romantismus periods. Viollet-le-Duc and purist reconstruction of monuments. Protection ofhistorical mansions and town planning in second half of 19th century. Activities of Vienna Central Committee for Cultural Heritage Research and Preservation. Alois Riegl, Max Dvořák - Vienna school of art history and origin of contemporary cultural heritage protection Old Prague Protection Club and beginning of cultural heritage protection in Bohemian countries. Organisation structure, theoretical starting points and practical outcomes of Czechoslovak cultural heritage protection in 1918-1938. Vincenc Kramář and Bohuslav Slánský - "Czechoslovak restoration school".

Learning outcomes
Course objective consists in presenting entire historical picture of protection, conservation and restoration of monuments. Students are lectured on historical development of a man relationship to works of the past, from ancient time to the end of 18th century; they are provided knowledge on cultural heritage care development and its practical application in 19th and 20th centuries.
