Course content
The subject covers: semantic environment - ornament, decor, decoration, morphology; symbol, emblem, code; nature as an ornament source of inspiration, development of ornament structures starting from pre-antique cultures up to the middle of 20th century; fundamental ranges of ornament systems and their blending within creative art history (e.g. arabesque, mauresque, grotesque); development of scientific and general professional ornament knowledge (books dealing with architecture, pattern books, iconography, sets of graphic templates, encyclopaedias, specialized professional pieces, etc.).

Learning outcomes
Subject objectives consist in making students acquainted with fundamental sources and development of this creative art branch which always accompanied architecture, painting, sculpture as well as book art culture and became its integral and equal part.
Students are well versed in development of decorative systems in the creative art culture required for morphological analysis applied to work under restoration treatment
