Recapitulation of the course Introduction to computers. Operating Systems Microsoft DOS and Windows (3.1, 9x, NT/2K/XP). Operating systems, UNIX and Linux for desktop computers. OSI network model. Introduction to network operating systems. Characteristics of the network operating system (NOS). Install NOS. Planning system, hardware requirements, a list of hardware, hardware compatibility. Windows 2K Professional. Installing the base OS, install optional components. Windows 2K Professional. Log on. Linux. The choice of distribution, installing the base OS, install optional components. Linux. Log on. Advanced NOS. Tools to analyze and optimize network performance. Network security.

Learning outcomes |
The course is a thorough introduction to multi-user, multi-tasking network operating systems. Characteristics of the Linux and Windows NT/2000/XP will be discussed. Students will explore a variety of topics including installation procedures, backup procedures and remote access. Labs are based on the CNA e-learning course "IT Essentials II - Network Operating Systems (for details, see http://www.cisco.com/ web/learning/netacad/course_catalog/IT2.html).

Assessment methods and criteria |
Oral examination, Didactic test, Systematic monitoring
Given assignment confirms that a student has attended lessons to the extent required and fulfilled qualified requirements. Conditions for credit are: active work at labs, min. 80% presence, passing the CNA (Cisco Networking Academy) "IT Essentials II - Network Operating Systems" class. Form, contents and length of the exam are determined in accordance with Study and Examining Rules of University of Pardubice. The exam consists of two parts, a written test and a theoretical exam. Student passes successfully the written test as well as the theoretical part of the exam if he/she obtains at minimum 50% of possible points in each part. |
