Course content
Scientific research - methods of human knowledge, qualitatively and quantitatively oriented research, research ex-post-facto and experiments. Data collection methods - observation, questionnaires, interviews, tests, sociometrics, semantic differential, Q-methodology. Measurement in pedagogical research - its types, properties. Methods of data processing I. - organize data in tables, graphical methods. Methods of data processing II. - characteristics of the location, extent and degree of variability of skewness and kurtosis, methods of exploratory data analysis, normal distribution. Statistical methods used for hypothesis testing I. - factual and statistical hypotheses research, statistical tests for the analysis of nominal data. Statistical methods used for testing hypotheses. II. - statistical tests to analyze ordinal and metric data. Computer processing of data in Statistica. Methods of data collection - the creation of the questionnaire, enrollment forms observation, sociograms, color semantic differential. Methods of data processing I. - organize data in tables, graphical methods. Methods of data processing II. - characteristics of the location, extent and degree of variability of skewness and kurtosis, methods of exploratory data analysis. Statistical methods used for hypothesis testing I. - factual and statistical hypotheses in research, the possibility of statistical tools and programs EXCELL, ADSTAT, Statistica.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with a basic knowledge about concepts of scientific research methodology , data processing and basic methods used in statistical surveys in social sciences. The aim is also the choice and use of appropriate methods at its own investigation of the thesis.
Student applies knowledge gained from prescribed syllabus.

Assessment methods and criteria

The fulfilment of compulsory 80% attendance at lectures and seminars. Processing a fictitious thematic research on a chosen topic of thesis. Completion of a written test or an oral examination as determined by the guarantor of course.
