Course content
|
Role of individual imaging methods in diagnosis of critical conditions - skiagraphy, skiascopy, ultrasound, computed tomography, angiography and nuclear magnetic resonance. Imaging of head and face injuries. Cerebrovascular accidents - intracranial bleeding, cerebral ischemia. Imaging of spine injuries. Imaging of chest and pelvis injuries. Imaging of upper and lower extremities injuries. Work of a radiologist and a radiological assistant in the operating theatre and intensive care unit, intraoperative angiography, cholangiography, radiological assistance in orthopedic surgery, trauma surgery and neurosurgery. Test. Polytrauma - role of a radiologist and a radiological assistant in a trauma team. Ultrasound examination in urgent admission. Imaging in urgent admission, technical limitations, problems and solutions for imaging a patient in a critical condition. Acute abdominal pain - role of individual imaging methods. Mechanical, paralytic and vascular ileus. Perforation events. Hemoperitoneum. Inflammatory acute abdominal pain. Urologic emergencies Diagnosis of acute pain in chest and shortness of breath (pneumothorax, aspiration, acute myocardial infarction, aortic dissection, ruptured aortic aneurysm). Therapeutic interventions in critical conditions - non vascular surgery (drainage of fluid collections and pneumothorax, percutaneous biliary drainage), vascular embolization of bleeding, recanalization of vascular occlusions, neurointerventions). Complications of therapeutic interventions and their prevention. Diagnosis of brain death. Imaging of critical conditions in children - differences from adults. Imaging of non-obstetrical acute conditions in pregnant women. Test.

Learning outcomes
|
The subject provides a comprehensive overview of acute conditions, including life-threatening conditions, which radiology assistants may encounter in common practice. Emphasis is placed on proper examination technique of each imaging method and on possible pitfalls of urgently performed imaging examinations, but also on clinically significant findings in acutely ill patients.
Students will master the subject matter in the extent outlined by the syllabus.
