Course content
Basic terms in anesthesiology and resuscitation, general anesthesia. Local anesthesia, preoperative surgical preparation, monitoring in anesthesia. Pain management. Fundamentals of cardiopulmonary-cerebral resuscitation out of hospital and in hospital. Intensive care, definition of specialist care and interdisciplinary care, monitoring in intensive care. Airways, securing, management, moistening, oxygen therapy, artificial lung ventilation, ventilators. Emergency admission - patient in critical condition. Practical training and duties of Nurse anesthetist in the workplace. Practical training of assistance in general and local anesthesia, techniques of local anesthesia, ways of pain management. Practical training of removal, transport, and positioning of injured persons during the first aid. Practical training of cardiopulmonary-cerebral resuscitation, differences between out-of-hospital first aid and first aid in hospital. Practical treatment of individual types of wounds. Practical training of first aid in injuries of bones, joints, spine, and head. Practical training of airway management and pulmonary hygiene in artificial lung ventilation .

Learning outcomes
The aim is to acquire knowledge and skills in the area of intensive care and anaesthesia.
The student will gain basic dexterity for conducting first aid that is safe and of good quality. Students will be familiar with the fundamentals of general and local anesthesia, including airway management, and pain management. Students will also get acquainted with fundamentals of emergency resuscitation. Students will learn individual steps of urgent admission, and treatment of heavy bleeding. In the field of intensive care, students will also learn principles of differentiated care, including resuscitation, intensive care monitoring, principles of treatment of critically ill patients, and principles of artificial lung ventilation.

Completion of compulsory 85% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Successful completion of a written test.
