Course content
|
Anatomy and physiology of the nervous system. Location of disorders of the brain functions. Central and peripheral paresis. Disorders of sensitivity and speech. Neuralgia. Fundamental brain and spinal syndromes. Auxiliary examination (EEG, EMG, CSF). Cerebrovascular accidents. Multiple sclerosis. Neuromuscular conditions. Epilepsy and seizures. Nursing neurological assessment. The nursing process in the care of patients with altered LOC. The nursing process in the care of patients with impaired mobility. The nursing process in the care of patients with speech disorders. The nursing process in the care of patients with dysphagia. The nursing process in the care of patients with seizures.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim is to acquaint students with prevention, treatment and nursing issues concerning neurological conditions and to emphasize those points in the care of the neurological patients that are unique to this patient population.
The student know basic anatomy and physiology of the nervous system, basic symptoms related to neurological conditions, basic examination of the neurological patient, the most frequent neurological conditions and states. The student is able to implement the nursing process in the care of these patients.
