Course content
Introduction to the subject. CAD (coronary artery disease), chronic heart failure - etiology, clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment options, diet therapy, complications, prevention. Arrhythmias - etiology, clinical picture, diagnosis and treatment options, catheter ablation, Holter monitoring. Inflammatory heart disease - etiology, clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment options, diet therapy, complications, prevention. Arterial hypertension - etiology, clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment options, diet therapy, complications, prevention. Pulmonary embolism - etiology, clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment options, diet therapy, complications, prevention. Pulmonary hypertension - etiology, clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment options, diet therapy, complications, prevention. Arterial and venous diseases - etiology, clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment options, diet therapy, complications, prevention. Angiography of the lower limbs. Specifics of nursing care in the cardiology department. Methods and procedures in diagnosis, functional examination of the cardiovascular system (ergometry, echocardiography, oesophageal echocardiography). Preparation of a patient and nursing care after interventional procedures. Specialized nursing care of patients with CAD, physical examination by a nurse, assessment of patient's needs, determination of nursing problems, nursing intervention plan, education in modalities, implementation options, counselling. Specialized nursing care of patients before and after invasive procedures, interventional procedures, after cardiac catheterization, cardiac coronary angiography, and pacemaker implantation. Specialized nursing care of patients with arrhythmias. ECG examination, physiology and pathology of heart rhythm disorders, analysis and differentiation of disorders (practical training). Specialized nursing care of patients with arterial hypertension. Education about appropriate lifestyle in cardiovascular diseases. Nutrition in cardiovascular disease. Nutritional therapist intervention. Specialized nursing care of patients with pulmonary embolism, pulmonary hypertension. Specialized nursing care of patients with arterial and venous disease. Compression devices and their indications. Correct application. Prescription of medical devices.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the subject is to acquaint students with specifics of diseases of cardiovascular system and with the issues of working in cardiological department, including specialized units (coronary and arrhythmological) and outpatient department.
Students will learn diagnostics, treatment, and principles of nursing care in patients with selected diseases of cardiovascular system. Students will be able to plan, implement, and assess nursing process with regard to its specifics. Students will be prepared to educate and advice in the field of cardiology.

Fulfillment of mandatory participation in lectures and exercises. Completion of the assigned written work. Successful completion of the oral exam.
