Course content
|
Stroke. Inflammatory diseases of the nervous system. Degenerative diseases. Neuromuscular diseases. Demyelinating diseases. Extrapyramidal diseases. Epileptic syndromes. Drugs used in the therapy of diseases of the nervous system. Rheumatological diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus), clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment. Spinal diseases. Degenerative joint diseases, arthrosis, clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment, pain management. Medical rehabilitation, musculoskeletal examination, assessment of the patient's mobility and self-care. Rehabilitation of patients with specific diseases - multiple sclerosis, etc. Specialized nursing care of patients with neurological diseases. The importance of rehabilitation nursing in patients after stroke. Physical examination by a nurse in neurology. Patient education, prescription of medical devices. Nursing process in patients with selected neurological diseases, syndromes and symptoms. Nutritional care in dysphagia. Specific forms of diet for swallowing disorders. Specialised nursing care of patients with rheumatological diseases. Planning of nursing interventions, education. Specialized nursing care of patients with degenerative joint disease (positioning, self-care training, mobilization and verticalization). Specialized nursing care of patients with back pain, back pain prevention, exercise. Prescription of medical devices. Patient self-care assessment, pain management. Kinesthetic mobilisation and Bobath concept - practical training of techniques. Training of rehabilitation treatment in relation to a specific diagnosis (central and peripheral paresis, ...). Specifics of working with patients with cognitive deterioration, multiple sclerosis).

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with the specifics of diseases of the nervous and musculoskeletal system and with the principles of specialized nursing care of these patients. It introduces students to medical rehabilitation, assessment of self-care and mobilization, and rehabilitation nursing for specific diseases.
Students are familiar with the diagnosis, treatment and principles of nursing care of patients with selected diseases of the nervous system, and they are able to plan, implement and evaluate the nursing process with regards to their specifics. Students are able to apply rehabilitation nursing techniques to patients with specific needs. Students are prepared to carry out educational and counselling activities in this field.
