Course content
Introduction to surgery. Examination of the surgical patient. Asepsis and antisepsis. Wound science. Infection in surgery. Pathological physiology in surgery. Preoperative preparation. Surgical procedure. Surgical tactics and technique. Postoperative care. Postoperative complications. Blood transfusion. Injury science. Shock. Fundamentals of surgical oncology. Providing an opinion; legal responsibility in surgery.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the field of surgery and to prepare them for further systematic study of surgery and traumatology.
The student gains a global view of the field, knows the principles of techniques and procedures used in surgery, and is able to use basic diagnostic and examination methods in surgery.

Successful completion of a written test. 80% attendance at lectures is mandatory.
