Course content
Organization and issues existing in contemporary paediatrics. Growth a development of the healthy child. The child's hospitalization and the Charter of rights of the hospitalized child. The child's nutrition (breastfeeding, vitamins). Pharmacotherapy in the childhood age. Congenital developmental defects, heredity. The normal newborn. The abnormal newborn. Diseases of the digestive tract. Diseases of the endocrine glands and growth disorders. Diseases of the blood, the heart, and the circulatory system. Diseases of the muscles, the bones, and rheumatic illnesses.

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Work with text (with textbook, with book), Skills training, Stimulating activities (simulation, games, drama)
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic preventative, treatment, and nursing aspects of care in paediatric medicine and to emphasize special characteristics of illnesses and nursing care in individual developmental periods of the childhood age.
The student understands special characteristics of illnesses of the childhood age and is able to practically apply gained theoretical knowledge in departments of paediatrics. He/she is able to identify and assess individual needs of the ill child, to plan, implement, critically evaluate and defend the nursing process.

Assessment methods and criteria
Home assignment evaluation, Student performance assessment, Didactic test, Presentation

Completion of compulsory 75% attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Completing assigned written work. Successful completion of a written test.
