Course content
Introduction into emergency medicine, history and development of emergency medical services and emergency admissions concept. Contemporary situation, of emergency medical services, organization of pre-hospital emergency care, groups and crews of emergency medical services. Emergency medical services operations center, emergency hospital admissions. Basic legislation, decrees and regulations. Instruments and apparatus in pre-hospital care, documentation Equipment used in pre-hospital care (ambulance vehicles, helicopters, radio communication). Chain of survival, triage, mass fatality incidents. Tour of the dispatch center of emergency medical services and the regional medical operations centre. Getting familiar with instruments and apparatus, documentation, and other equipment of an ambulance vehicle. Triage, START triage algorithm, roles of the regional medical operations centre.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with various acute conditions (causes, manifestations, diagnostics, first aid, pre-hospital care, and follow-up treatment), procedures conducted at the site of the response, the possibilities of transport to a health care facility, and with procedures pertinent to the patient's transfer to a health care facility. To expand the knowledge of the basic medical disciplines and to emphasize the multidisciplinary nature of urgent medicine. To aquaint students with crisis planning and procedures pertinent to the resolution of an emergency.
The student knows the causes, manifestations, diagnostics, and treatment of acute conditions and is able to use algorithms utilized in pre-hospital care. The student knows and is able to use technical and health care equipment of an ambulance. Theoretically, the student has mastered the issue of planning, organization, and management of rescue operations in mass accidents, emergencies, and natural catastrophes.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Didactic test

Mandatory attendance of 85% in lectures and seminars. Credit requirement: Shooting a videeo of advanced resuscitation in pairs.
