Course content
Hernias. Thoracic surgery. Endocrine surgery and vascular surgery. Traumatology. Surgical performance, operating tract, instrumentation and material equipment. Preoperative and postoperative care, postoperative complications. Nursing process in patients with diseases of the stomach and duodenum. Nursing process in patients with diseases of the pancreas, liver, gallbladder and bile ducts. Nursing process in patients with NPB. Nursing process in patients with stoma.

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the issues in the field of special surgery. The student knows and applies the specifics of the nursing process in patients after surgery.
The student knows fundamental surgical terminology, symptoms of abdominal emergencies, their diagnostics and treatment, knows issues related to asepsis and antisepsis, preoperative preparation, postoperative monitoring, postoperative complications, infection issues in surgery, injury issues, and furthermore, he/she knows examination and diagnostic procedures in the above subspecialties.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Passing a written test. Compulsory 80% participation in seminars and active work in groups. Passing the oral exam.
