Course content
Research, its forms and divisions, organizational forms in scientific communication. Review of a professional publication. Basics of probability. Basics of descriptive statistics, exploratory analysis. Point and interval estimation, principle of hypothesis testing, correlation, contingency. Questionnaire surveys. Scales. Templates and recommendations for the preparation of final theses. Source citation versus plagiarism. Research preparation - research, public databases, questionnaire design. Tables, charts. Characteristics of the statistical sample, exploratory analysis, scoring and interval estimation, interpretation of results. Basics of working with STATISTICA programme. Processing of own data, preparation of a semester paper.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge of the foundations of scientific research and the foundations of the processing of statistical data so as he/ she will be able to create a general basis for the processing of the bachelor thesis.
Students acquire knowledge of the basics of research and scientific work, learn the basic concepts of probability and statistics and basic skills of statistical data processing. Students are able to conduct basic research, process the data and correctly interpret the findings. Students can practically use all the acquired knowledge, including the basics of typography, in the preparation of their semester paper and bachelor's thesis.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination

Compliance with the mandatory 80% participation in the exercise. Compliance with the mandatory 50% participation in lectures. Elaboration of semestral work. Credit: written test (Moodle, Statistica) focused on the basics of statistics. Exam: written test (Moodle) focused on theoretical basics.
