Course content

Introduction Overview of basic anatomical and physiological knowledge. Localization of cerebral function disorders. Central and peripheral paresis. Sensitivity disorders, speech disorders, and neuralgia. Basic brain and spinal cord syndromes. Auxiliary examinations (EEG, EMG, and cerebrospinal fluid). Epilepsy and seizure conditions. Cerebrovascular accidents. Introduction and history of psychiatry. General psychiatry. Organic and endogenous mental disorders. Therapy in psychiatry. Alcoholism and other drug addictions. Child and adolescent psychiatry. Geriatric psychiatry.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the subject is to provide students with basic knowledge in the field of neurology and psychiatry, with a focus on acute and critical conditions.
Students are able to build on the knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology and to develop it further while focusing on neurological and psychiatric illnesses and conditions. They know the basic pathophysiological phenomena, manifestations of the illnesses and their diagnostics and treatment. They are able to apply the knowledge to practice.

Oral examination
Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the lectures. Successful completion of an oral examination.
