Course content
|
Procedures associated with the resolution of acute states in paediatrics. Acute conditions in paediatrics associated with the cardiovascular system. Acute conditions in paediatrics associated with the respiratory system. Acute conditions in paediatrics associated with disorders of the CNS. Acute conditions in paediatrics associated with diseases of the gastrointestinal and urogenital tracts. Abdominal emergencies. Burns, intoxication, drowning, electrical injuries, the abused child, SIDS. Acute conditions leading to disturbances of the internal environment and conditions resulting from hormonal deregulation. Basic physical assessment of the child. Assessment of consciousness and pain in children. The first treatment of the newborn. Acute conditions in children and their management: model scenarios.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic preventive and treatment foci of paediatrics with an emphasis on acute conditions and on differences between the child's organism and the adult's.
The student knows causes and manifestations of acute conditions in paediatrics that directly threaten the child's life, differential diagnostics, and provision of specialized aid during the first contact with the child.

|
Oral examination, Home assignment evaluation, Didactic test
Completion of compulsory 85% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Completing assigned written work. Successful completion of an oral examination.
