Course content
Preoperative and postoperative care. The nursing process in the care of patients with diseases of the digestive system. The nursing process in the care of patients with diseases of the pancreas, the liver, the gallbladder, and the biliary pathways. The nursing process in the care of patients with abdominal emergencies. The nursing process in the care of patients with stoma.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with work in operating theatres and in surgical intensive care units, to know and apply specifics of the nursing process to the care of patients after surgical interventions.
The student knows the principle of central sterilization, spatial arrangements, aseptic service in operation theatres and fundamentals of instrumentation. He/she will be able to plan, implement, and evaluate the nursing process in the care of patients after surgical interventions and to use knowledge from interdisciplinary fields.

Assessment methods and criteria
Work-related product analysis

Completion of compulsory 60% attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Successful completion of a written test or an oral examination according to the course guarantor's decision.
