Course content
Abdominal emergencies in pre-hospital care, differential diagnostics, and securing. Polytrauma in pre-hospital care - definition, aetiology, differential diagnostics, monitoring, treatment, and securing. Craniocerebral trauma, trauma to the vertebral column and spinal cord injury in pre-hospital care. Chest injuries in pre-hospital care. Injuries to the extremities. Crush syndrome, Blast syndrome. Burns, thermal injuries, and electrical injuries in pre-hospital care. Triage of patients using the START method Communication with the surgery centre, consultation - training calls Acute conditions in surgery and traumatology - model situations

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with various acute conditions (causes, manifestations, diagnostics, first aid, pre-hospital care, and follow-up treatment), procedures conducted at the site of the response, the possibilities of transport to a health care facility, and with procedures pertinent to the patient's transfer to a health care facility. To expand the knowledge of the basic medical disciplines and to emphasize the multidisciplinary nature of urgent medicine. To aquaint students with crisis planning and procedures pertinent to the resolution of an emergency.
The student knows the causes, manifestations, diagnostics, and treatment of acute conditions and is able to use algorithms utilized in pre-hospital care. The student knows and is able to use technical and health care equipment of an ambulance. Theoretically, the student has mastered the issue of planning, organization, and management of rescue operations in mass accidents, emergencies, and natural catastrophes.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Student performance assessment, Systematic monitoring

Completion of compulsory 85% active attendance at the practicum sessions. Compliance with the mandatory 80% active attendance in lectures. Completion of an oral examination. Completion of the required practical procedures.
