Course content
Diseases of the oesophagus. Ulcer disease, gastric carcinoma. Malabsorption syndrome. Nonspecific intestinal inflammation. Colorectal carcinoma. Diseases of the gallbladder and biliary tract. Diseases of the pancreas. Liver diseases. Pneumology - infectious lung inflammation. Bronchogenic carcinoma. Respiratory insufficiency, pleural diseases. Hodgin's disease, plasmocytoma. Acute and chronic leukemia. Diseases of the thyroid gland. Rheumatoid arthritis.

Learning outcomes
In the first part of the course, students become acquainted with fundamental issues from the field of internal medicine, with aetiology, pathogenesis, clinical picture, diagnostics, treatment, and prevention of internal illnesses affecting the adult population.
Students will learn fundamentals of internal medicine. Students will understand the roles and importance of nursing care in relevant diseases and will be capable of applying acquired knowledge in practice.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance assessment, Didactic test

Completion of compulsory 50% attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Successful completion of a written test or an oral examination according to the course guarantor's decision. Completing assigned written work.
