Course content
|
The role of different imaging methods in the diagnosis of critical conditions - sciagraphy, skiascopy, ultrasound, computed tomography, angiography and nuclear magnetic resonance. Imaging of head and facial trauma. Stroke - intracranial haemorrhage, cerebral ischaemia. Imaging of spinal injuries. Imaging of chest and pelvic injuries. Imaging of upper and lower limb injuries. Work of the radiologist and radiology assistant in the operating theatre. and intensive care unit, perioperative angiography, cholangiography, radiological assistance in orthopaedic, trauma and neurosurgical operations. Polytrauma - role of radiologist and radiological assistant in trauma team. Ultrasound examination in the emergency department. Imaging in the emergency department, technical limitations and problem solving in imaging the critically ill patient. Sudden abdominal episodes - the role of different imaging modalities. Ileus mechanical, paralytic, vascular. Perforation episodes. Bleeding into the abdominal cavity. Inflammatory sudden abdominal episodes. Diagnosis of acute chest pain and dyspnoea (pneumothorax, aspiration, acute myocardial infarction, aortic dissection, aortic aneurysm rupture). Interventional procedures in critical conditions - non-vascular (drainage of fluid collections and pneumothorax, percutaneous transhepatic drainage), vascular embolization of bleeding, recanalization of vascular occlusions, neurointervention). Complications of interventional procedures and their prevention. Diagnosis of brain death. Imaging of critical conditions in children - differences from adult emergencies. Imaging of non-obstetric acute conditions in pregnant women.

Learning outcomes
|
The course provides a comprehensive overview of acute conditions, including life-threatening ones, that a radiology assistant may encounter in routine practice. Emphasis is placed on the correct technique of examination by individual imaging methods, possible pitfalls of urgently performed imaging examinations, as well as clinically relevant findings in acutely ill patients.
Students will master the subject matter in the extent outlined by the syllabus.
