Course content
Anatomy and physiology of the auditory analyzer, basic hearing disorders and their treatment options. Symptomatology, diagnostics, and treatment of inflammation of the ear, nose, paranasal sinuses, the pharynx, and their complications. Symptomatology, diagnostics, and fundamentals of treatment of malignant tumours in ENT. Dyspnoea and causes of dyspnoea due to an occlusion of upper respiratory pathways. The patient after a tracheostomy and laryngectomy. Care of the tracheal cannula, suction from the respiratory pathways. Traumatology in ENT. Epistaxis. Introduction, notes on anatomy and physiology of the visual analyzer, basic disorders. External and internal eye inflammation. Cataract, glaucoma, eye injury. Ophthalmosurgery. Introduction, anatomy, tooth topography. Fundamentals of preservation stomatology. Stomatological surgery. Fundamentals of prosthetic stomatology. Tooth decay prevention. Anatomy and physiology of the skin. Classification of skin diseases. Skin diseases due to external causes. Care of the complexion. Dermatomycoses, allergic illnesses. Photobiology. Veneral diseases.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with fundamental examination methods, nursing care, and first aid in urgent conditions in otorhinolaryngology, with care of the tracheostomised patient and with symptoms of inflammatory and oncological illnesses in the ENT area. With refractory defects, eye cataracts, inflammatory diseases of the eye, eye injury issues, and fundamentals of social issues associated with poor vision and blindness. With diagnostics and prevention of tooth illnesses and illnesses of oral cavity tissues. Furthermore, fundamentals of preservation, surgical, prosthetic, and child stomatology are explained, including orthodontics and parodontology. With fundamental groups of skin diseases and possibilities of their transmission, treatment, and prevention. An independent part is devoted to sexually transmitted diseases including reporting and detection.
The student gains a basic overview of the fields of otorhinolaryngology, dermatovenerology, ophthalmology, and stomatology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination

Completion of compulsory 50% attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Successful completion of a written test.
