Course content
Cerebrovascular accident. Inflammatory diseases of the nervous system. Degenerative diseases. Neuromuscular diseases. Demyelination diseases. Extrapyramidal diseases. Epileptic syndrome. Introduction to orthopaedics, traumatology. Degenerative joint afflictions, spine diseases. Inflammatory joint damage, tumours of the musculoskeletal system. Septic orthopaedics. Assessing one's labour and self-care potential - the methods and possibilities of their use in practice. Reduced activities of the person: technical compensation possibilities (aids, prosthetics, and legal standards). The issue of verticalization in different types of disabilities, and theoretical possibilities for their practical use. Principles of nursing care of patients after orthopaedic surgery, and prevention of the immobilization syndrome.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with the specifics of diseases of the nervous and musculoskeletal system and with the principles of specialized nursing care of these patients.
Students know the diagnostics, treatment, and principles of nursing care of patients with selected diseases of the nervous and musculoskeletal system and are able to plan, implement, and evaluate the nursing process with respect to their special features. They are ready to implement educational and consulting activities in this area.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Completion of 75% compulsory attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 85% attendance at the practicum sessions. Completion of a written/oral examination.
