Course content
A stoma involving the GI tract. Classical and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, and colostomy. Clinical and nursing issues. Coniotomy, tracheostomy, and puncture-dilatation tracheostomy. Clinical and nursing issues. Psychosocial aspects of patients with a tracheal cannula. Urostomy. Clinical and nursing issues. Introductory seminar.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to expand knowledge and skills in the area of management of patients with a stoma.
Students are able to assess the needs of the patients with a stoma involving the GI tract, a urostomy, and a tracheostomy. They know the stoma complications, the supplies for stoma patients, nutrition, fluid management, the specifics of physical activity, and psychosocial issues, including collaboration with stoma clubs. On the basis of knowledge, they are able to create a plan of nursing interventions and to educate patients and their families about the regimen and implementation options.

Assessment methods and criteria
Didactic test

Completion of compulsory 50% attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 85% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Successful completion of a written test.
