Course content
|
Symptoms of the terminal disease stage. Respiratory symptoms and their treatment. Gastrointestinal symptoms. Hydration disorders - options to exert an influence. Psychological aspects of dying, treatment of psychiatric syndromes. Undesired effects of medication treatment. Medication administration methods in palliative medicine. Supportive treatment in the care of patients. What may be and may not be manageable at home in the care of the dying person.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with etiopathogenesis, symptoms, and treatment of terminal illnesses.
The student knows respiratory symptoms and gastrointestinal symptoms of terminal illnesses, hydration issues, psychological aspects of dying, knows pharmacological agents used in terminal stages including their undesired effects. Furthermore, he/she knows fundamentals of home care in the care of the dying person.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination
Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the lectures. Successful completion of a written test or an oral examination according to the course guarantor's decision.
