Course content
|
1. Introduction. Center, periphery and semiperiferie in the basic definition. Traditions concept of the terms. 2. Beginnings of the education of the Slavs: the formation of early medieval states and their cultural centers. 3. Cyril and Methodius tradition and the beginnings of Slavic Culture: Great Moravia, Bulgaria, Kievan Rus. 4. Culture centres of the medieval Polish state. 5. Concept of center and periphery in the culture of Kievan Rus. 6. Culture centres of the medieval Czech state: 7. Centers of Renaissance culture of the Slavs: Poland, the Dubrovnik Republic, the Czech lands. 8. Parameters of the Barock Slavism. 9. The Enlightenment and the Slavic Cultural Centera. 10. The concept of center and periphery in the Slavic Revival. The new center of national cultures. 11. Transforming centers of cultural life in the 20th century. The rise of new peripherals. 12. Slavic cultural center and the periphery at the time of European integration. 13. Summary of important moments.

Learning outcomes
|
The course follows the changes of role of cultural centers and their relationship to social life. Among the leading themes of the course is the participation of intelectual centers in the process of formation of national cultures, Attention will also be given on problem of relations between centers of Slavic culture and its peripheral areas. Among the methodological approaches should be noted also the chronological perspective, in which the course follows the culturally active areas in the course of cultural history.
The ability to track changes of the cultural centers and analyze the dynamics of the development of the national cultures.
