Course content
1. Standards and regulations in mechanical engineering. 2. Requirements for machinery (types of load, service life, strength, over load). 3. Bolt connections - force relations, self-locking, preload bolt connection. 4. Bolt mechanisms - loss of stability of motion bolts, critical load and stress. Imperfection. 5. Hub and shaft connection shape bond. 6. Hub and shaft connection force bond. 7. Welded joint - weld types, bearing weld calculation, deformation and stress. 8. Glued and soldered connections. 9. Bearings - friction and roller bearings - design, materials, calculation method. 10. Mechanical gears - rope, belt , chain and friction transmissions. 11. Mechanical gears - Toothed wheels - dimensional parameters of spur gearing, kinematical relations at meshing, evolvent. 12. Shaft uncontrolled couplings. Elastic and rigid couplings design.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)
  • Term paper - 4 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 50 hours per semester
  • Contact teaching - 65 hours per semester
  • Data/material collection - 1 hour per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the lessons is to introduce to chosen basic constructional elements using especially for transport means and equipment, to explain their properties and function principles and to teach students to perform necessary calculations associated with machinery design and material selection.
