Course content
1. Corrosion - principles of corrosion; types of corrosion. Corrosion processes and their types (chemical, physical, electrochemical). 2. Corrosion a corrosion resistance of non ferrous metals. (Al, Ti, Cu, Zn). 3. Surface pretreatment of metals. 4. Surface treatment - metallic surface coatings (metal plating, electroplating). 5. Surface treatment - organic coatings (paintings). 6. Corrosion resistant steels. 7. Corrosion protection design of structures. 8. Casting technologies (investment casting, permanent mould casting). 9. Chip machining - chip forming principles, cutting tools, cutting enviromnents. Machining methods - turning, milling, drilling. 10. Technology of volume forming - forging, ramming, extrusion. Technology of surface forming = drawing, cutting, bending, straightening of sheets. 11. Welding methods - theoretical backgroung of welding. Basic methods of fusing welding. Conventional and progessive welding methods. 12. Non-destructive testing of materials - surface mthods. 13. Non-destructive testing of materials - volume methods.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)

Learning outcomes
Basic information about degradation mechanisms of structure materials. Basic information about corrosion protection of structure materials. Basic of production technologies and their application at transport means maintenance - casting, chip machining, forming. Non-destructive examination of materials.
Students will acquire overview of corrosion protection of structure materials. Knowledge from production technologies - casting, forming, welding, chip machining the main types of metal materials. Non-destructive examination of materials.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge from material engineering. Basic knowledge from chemistry.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination, Discussion, Self project defence

Will be defined by lecturer at start of semester. Exam is defined according to Study and Examinations Rules.
