Course content
|
Fundamentals of the glassy state; Glass formation principles. Fundamentals of inorganic commercial glassmaking. Properties of the glass (mechanical, chemical, optical, etc.). Inorganic glass-forming systems: oxide glasses (silicate glasses; borate, phosphate glasses), special (chalcogenide, halogenide glasses, glassy metals).

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of this course is to give the student a fundamental understanding of the properties of inorganic glasses and relationships exhibited by glassy materials together with the fundamentals of the technology of commercial glass-production.
Student acquires the knowledge in the glass properties, the relationships between in, and a method of their preparation. Also the basic input in technology processes of commercial glass-production is done.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination
The lectures assume the basic knowledge of General and Inorganic Chemistry, Solid State Chemistry and Solid State Physics, respectively.
