Course content
What is glass: definition, glass formation, Tg, regions of glass formation, theories of glass formation. History of glasses. Glass composition and preparation: glass formers, modifiers and intermediates. Glass structure. Basic glass properties: density; mechanical behavior; viscosity; thermal expansion. Optical properties. Glass technology: furnances, heatprof materials, cooling and forming of glasses, colouring of glasses etc. Nowadays trends in glass industry.

Learning outcomes
Course covers basic glass science and technology: glassy state, glass structure, commercial glass families and teir manufacturing, glass properties,colouring of the glasses, defects the glasses, etc.
At the end of the course, the student should be able to know the various commercial oxide glass families, their technology, properties, important applications, methods of their characterization and nowadays trends in glass industry.
