Course content
Chemical bonds in solids. Strucure, crystal symmetry, Diffraction of X-rays on the lattice. Phonons, Einstein and Debye theory of lattice vibrations. Metals, Fermi level, density of states. Band theory - basic theorems. Lattice defects. Current carriers - conductivity, Hallův effect, thermoelektric effect. P-N junction, fotovoltaic cell. Ionic conductivity. Optical properties, reflectivity, transmission, photoelectric effect, laser.

Learning outcomes
Students get knowledge of basic electrical, optical and magnetic properties of solids.

Oral examination

Oral examination. Two reports on a given problem during semester.
