Course content
Introduction to the subject of first aid, complete CPR procedure. Shock, bleeding. First aid for head injuries, injuries to the vertebral column, the spine, and the thorax. First aid for heat and cold injuries, poisoning, chemical burns, drowning, and during mass accidents. First aid for acute non-injury conditions (myocardial infarction, cerebrovascular accident, epilepsy, diabetes mellitus, asthma) Patency of the respiratory pathways, lung-to-lung ventilation, cardiac arrest, external cardiac massage - practical training on mannequins. Methods used to arrest bleeding, first aid for shock, bone and joint injuries, bandages and fixation, positioning, transfer, recovery position - practical training using examples of scenarios. First aid for head injuries, injuries to the vertebral column, the spine, and the abdomen - practical training on mannequins - practical training using examples of scenarios. First aid for heat and cold injuries, poisoning, chemical burns, drowning, and first aid during mass accidents - practical training using examples.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to teach students not only fundamental procedures used in basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but also other first aid procedures.
The student applies new knowledge and skills gained during the lectures and the seminars in the practice setting. Students gain information on current first aid options and are acquainted with organizational aspects of care from the time of injury to the time of definitive treatment.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination

Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Successful completion of a written examination.
