Course content
The position of oncology in clinical medicine. Cancer epidemiology in the Czech Republic. CNS tumour. Tumours of the head and neck. Lung tumours. Tumours of the gastrointestinal tract. Tumours of kidney, urinary tract, male genital tract. Tumours of female genital organs. Tumours of the breast. Skin tumours. Childhood cancers. Vascular inputs in oncology - MIDLINE, PICC, PORT. Organisation of care for oncological patients, counselling, prevention. Specifics of nursing care of patients before and after surgery for cancer. Specifics of nursing care of patients anticancer pharmacological treatment (biological treatment, chemotherapy, hormonal treatment, immunotherapy), dealing with side effects. Specifics of nursing care of patients with radiotherapy and brachytherapy, dealing with side effects.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the most essential information in the field of clinical oncology. They will become familiar with the epidemiology of cancer in the Czech Republic and specific issues of cancer diseases in individual clinical fields.
The student knows the diagnosis, treatment, and principles of nursing care of oncology patients, is able to plan, manage, and evaluate the nursing process in relation to the special features of tumour diseases.

Fulfillment of mandatory participation in exercises. Completion of the assigned written work. Successful completion of the oral exam.
