Course content
|
Theory: The theory of communication. Signs and code formation in communication. Social communication. Verbal and nonverbal communication. Observing and listening in communication. Communication with the ill, the handicapped, and the dying people. Determination of the man's development, basic factors involved in the man's development, development models, the rules of developmental changes. E. H. Erickson's psychosocial stages of development. The conflict between a positive feeling of basic trust in life and a threatening feeling of mistrust of the world and of people. The conflict between a newly gained feeling of autonomy and threatening feelings of excessive shame and persistent dependence. The conflict between feelings of initiative and feelings of guilt over an activity contradicting the norms of the society. The feeling of meaning of own diligence and resisting threatening feelings of inferiority. The conflict between searching for one's own identity and the struggle against threatening feelings of insecurity. The conflict between feelings of intimacy and feelings of isolation and solitude. Intercultural communication. Conflicts. Special features of communication with problem types of individuals. Assertiveness-the rights, the techniques, its usage.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to provide students with basic information about the essence of verbal and nonverbal communication and to focus attention on communication of the health care personnel with patients.
The student practically applies knowledge and experience gained in lectures and the practicum. The student manages to communicate with people in various age groups as well as to communicate with problem types of individuals. The student is able to solve conflicts and problems with an assistance of assertive techniques.
