Course content
|
Introduction to pharmacology as a scientific branch. Drug pharmacodynamics and drug pharmacokinetics. Clinical classification of drug effects, indications, contraindications, drug interactions. Ethics of clinical testing of new drugs. Substances affecting the autonomic nervous system. Analgesics, anaesthetics, muscle relaxants. Biological drugs. Substance addiction. Emergency pharmacotherapy.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with fundamentals of pharmacology and efficient pharmacotherapy so that they could use gained knowledge in their own practice.
Students have knowledge of basic indicative groups of medicaments, know the most frequently prescribed medicinal preparations, their side effects, and undesired effects on a human organism. They understand and are able to explain fundamentals of pharmacokinetics. They are familiar with ethical issues concerning clinical trials of medicines and with emergency pharmacotherapy.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination
Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the lectures, seminars ang practicum sessions. Successful completion of an oral examination.
