Course content
Introduction to pharmacology. Basic terms, legal regulations regulating the handling of pharmaceuticals, pharmacopoeial literature. Basics of pharmacokinetics - absorption, distribution of metabolism, elimination of pharmaceutical products. Factors affecting the pharmacokinetics of drugs. Concentration of drugs and therapeutic effect on the organism. Basics of pharmacodynamics - mechanisms of drug actions and drug interactions. Minimum, maximum, and toxic drug concentration in the body. Undesirable and toxic effects of drugs. Doses and dosing of drugs. Overview of drugs affecting vegetative, motor, and sensory nerves - indications, contraindications, side effects, drug interactions, dosage forms, onset of action. New developments in therapy. Overview of drugs affecting the central nervous system, overview of psychopharmaceuticals - indications, contraindications, side effects, drug interactions, dosage forms, onset of action. New developments in therapy. Overview of drugs affecting the cardiovascular system - indications, contraindications, side effects, drug interactions, dosage forms, onset of action. New developments in therapy. Overview of drugs affecting blood and hematopoietic organs - indications, contraindications, side effects, drug interactions, dosage forms, onset of action. Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to deepen the knowledge of students in the field of pharmacology and in purposeful pharmacotherapy so that they can use the acquired knowledge to provide better and safer nursing care.
The student has knowledge of basic indicative groups of medicaments, knows the most frequently prescribed medicinal preparations, their side effects, and undesired effects on the human organism. He/she understands and is able to explain fundamentals of pharmacokinetics. He/she orientates himself/herself in ethical issues concerning clinical trials of medicines.

Oral examination

Fulfillment of the mandatory attendance at lectures. Fulfillment of the requirements for credit. Successful completion of the oral exam.
