Course content
Terminology and characteristics of basic types of surgical procedures and an overview and characteristics of surgical approaches and techniques in ophthalmic surgery. Topographic anatomy and function of organs operated on in ophthalmic surgery. Pathophysiological conditions, their diagnosis and indications for surgical treatment in ophthalmic surgery. Cataract surgery. Glaucoma surgery. Surgery of strabismus. Corneal transplantation. Eye injury surgery, enucleation of an eye. Characteristics and scope of the ENT field. Anatomy and physiology of the external and middle ear. Selected pathophysiological conditions in the ear, diagnosis, indications for surgical treatment and perioperative complications. Anatomy and physiology of the nose and paranasal sinuses (VND). Selected pathophysiological conditions in the nose and VND, diagnosis, indications for surgical treatment by external approach and endoscopic route and perioperative complications. Anatomy and physiology of the pharynx. Selected pathophysiological conditions in the pharynx, diagnosis and indications for surgical treatment and perioperative complications. Anatomy and physiology of the larynx. Selected pathophysiological conditions in the larynx, diagnosis, indications for surgical treatment and perioperative complications. Pathophysiology and causes of neck swelling, diagnosis, indications for surgical treatment and its perioperative complications. Endoscopy in ENT. Terminology and characteristics of basic types of surgical procedures and overview and characteristics of surgical approaches and techniques in stomatosurgery. Topographic anatomy and function of organs operated on in stomatosurgery. Pathophysiological conditions, their diagnosis and indications for surgical treatment in stomatosurgery. Dentoalveolar procedures: surgical tooth extraction, root tip resection. Maxillofacial surgical procedures: stable osteosynthesis of mandibular fracture, correction of mandibular overbite by sagittal osteotomy. Lower lip cancer surgery, surgery of lower mouth and tongue carcinoma. Perioperative care - specific aspects of individual surgical procedures in ophthalmic surgery. Instrumentation, specific instrumentation, implants, medications and other medical devices, materials and aids in ophthalmic surgery. Surgical techniques used in ENT and recording devices. Specifics of perioperative care in ENT patients. Prosthetic materials used in middle ear surgery. Materials and techniques for anterior and posterior nasal tamponade. Perioperative nursing care in patients undergoing adenotomy and tonsillectomy. Perioperative nursing care in patients with partial or total laryngectomy. Perioperative care - specific aspects of individual surgical procedures in ostomy surgery. Instrumentation, specific instrumentation, implants, medications and other medical devices, materials and aids for stomatosurgery.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to acquaint students with specifics of the field of eye surgery, otorhinolaryngology and dental surgery, issues of selected surgical diseases and their surgical therapy.
Students will master anatomy, topographical anatomy, pathophysiology, diagnostics, treatment and principles of perioperative care in eye surgery, otorhinolaryngology and dental surgery. Students will orientate themselves in surgical procedures in most frequent therapies in these fields. Students will be capable of providing nursing care in their role of a perioperative nurse, and they will be aware of risks and crisis situations in eye surgery, otorhinolaryngology and dental surgery resulting from situations in operating rooms.
