Course content
Assertiveness (rights, techniques, using assertiveness in life and health care practice). Conflicts and their solution. Introduction to communication for the helping professions. Communication with clients with different types of disability. Practicing assertiveness techniques. Conflict resolution and practising strategies for problematic communication. Practising communication with different types of patients with respect to their disability and special features of their psyche.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to provide students with basic information about the nature of interpersonal communication, focusing on its use in relation to clients of health and social services.
By completing the subject, students should acquire not only the required content of theoretical knowledge but also communication skills, which will enable them to engage in professional conduct in various situations while working with clients and their loved ones. Students apply knowledge and skills gained in lectures and practicum sessions to practice, have mastered communication with people across all age groups as well as communication with problematic types of individuals. Students are able to solve conflicts and problems using assertive techniques. In practice, they use alternative and augmentative communication techniques in practice.

Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Successful completion of a written test. Successful completion of an oral examination.
