The aim of the course is to acquaint students with causative agents of human infectious diseases and possibilities of transmission and spread of an infectious agent to a susceptible host, to explain the role and function of the human immune system, and to present basic information from the field of hygiene.
The teaching describes the basics of microorganism morphology, taxonomy, the metabolism of microorganisms and the importance of the microflora of the human body. Principles of how the immune system works and its possible diseases are also described. The subject matter further defines the basic epidemiological principles and describes the context of the emergence and spread of infectious diseases and the basic links of the epidemic process. Students are briefed on epidemiological investigations and activities in the outbreak, including the specification of basic repressive and preventive anti-epidemic measures and briefed on selected infectious diseases.
