Course content
Transcultural nursing, its importance, scope, and historical perspectives. Definition of basic concepts. The use of culturally specific nursing models. Foreigners in the CR and the issue of integration and health care. Characteristics of the health care delivery system in the CR, the rights and responsibilities of foreigners while utilizing health care, valid legal norms and international agreements. Development of nursing abroad and in the CR and international activities aiming to transform nursing. Characteristics of the nursing field, basic terminology, and modern nursing concepts. Professional training and competencies of nurses and midwives, professional organizations and their significance. Introduction to nursing models, concept characteristics, and the Gordon model. Fundamental nursing models - Nightingale, Roy, Orem, and King. Health care quality and safety, quality indicators, and management of sentinel events. Nursing care standards and audits and nursing documentation. Accreditation and certification. General quality management in nursing.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with the theory of nursing, safety and quality of nursing care, and fundamentals of multicultural nursing. Students will know nursing terminology and will be acquainted with the issue of the origin and development of nursing and with the characteristics of the field as a separate scientific discipline.
Students know the quality management strategies in health care systems. They learn to monitor and continuously evaluate and improve the quality of health care. Students understand the basic concepts of multicultural nursing. They gain information on selected ethnic, cultural, and religious groups.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Home assignment evaluation

Completion of compulsory 60% attendance at the lectures, 80% at the practicum sessions. Completing assigned written work. Successful completion of an oral examination.
