Psychology as a scientific discipline. Methods of cognition of mental life. Mental processes. Introduction to personality psychology. Theories of personality. Personality traits - innate. Personality traits - acquired. Basics of social psychology - socialization, social learning. Social group, the influence of the group on the individual. Social perception, perceptual stereotypes. Social attitudes, their formation and changes. Prosocial behaviour. Work with one's own personality. Self-awareness. Self-reflection. Personal growth. Mental health care. Developing one's own resistance. Working with one's own resources. Developing character strengths. The basics of supervision. Social support. Working with people in crisis (illness, change, pain, death). Basics of crisis intervention. Training in empathy, listening, emotional support in crisis.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to provide students with basic information in the field of general, developmental and social psychology, to introduce them to the nature of personality with an emphasis on the personality of the patient. Students are able to explain the position of psychology as a science in the system of social sciences, they are able to analyse psychological activities, processes and states and their disorders. Students learn to better understand other people through the understanding of their personality. They understand the differences in the human psyche at different developmental stages. They can use basic techniques for coping with stressful situations.
