Course content
|
Introduction into hygiene and epidemiology. Promotion and protection of public health. Nutritional hygiene. Environmental hygienic aspects. Hygiene of work. Hygiene of children and youths. Widespread non-infectious diseases. Primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis and cancer. Infectious diseases, prophylaxis. Nosocomial infections. Issue of addictions. Prevention and cessation programmes. Health promotion projects in the Czech Republic and abroad. Importance of physical activity and health prevention. Alternative diets, possible risks, drawing up a diet plan. Compensation of excessive or monotonous work load. Smoking - prevalence, risks, cessation programmes. Cancer prevention programmes. Infectious diseases, prophylaxis.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with basics of environmental and workplace hygiene, nutritional hygiene, issue of toxicology, epidemiology of infectious and non-infectious diseases, and issues of risk factors of life style.
The student will be well-versed in the area of health protection and promotion in the workplace (with a special emphasis on hospital hygiene) and in prevention of selected civilization diseases.

The fulfillment of compulsory 80% attendance (lectures, exercises, seminars). Successful completion of a written test.
