Course content
Disturbances in interpersonal communication, communication with problematic types of individuals (types of patients). Communication with clients with a serious disease, the dying, and surviving family members. Intercultural communication. Special features of communication with clients in different developmental stages. Communication in selected clinical areas. Intercultural communication problems, the means to facilitate intercultural communication. Interdisciplinary communication.

Learning outcomes
The subject builds on the knowledge of general psychology and pedagogy and develops themes related to relationship problems of two and more individuals, while considering social and personality development. Emphasis is placed not only on verbal but also on nonverbal communication. Individual communication problems are based on theory, and subsequent practice consists in their practical application forms. Particular emphasis is placed on the special features of communication between the health care personnel and patients. In addition, the subject deals with addressing psychosocial conflicts in different developmental stages and also provides knowledge and experience in the area of nursing care interactions.
The student is well-versed in issues of verbal and nonverbal components of communication. The student uses the knowledge gained in the subject in the course of normal conversation between the health care personnel and patients/clients.

Oral examination

Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars.
