Course content
Psychology as a science. Introduction to general psychology. Personality theory. Personality traits. Fundamentals of social psychology. Social perception, stereotypes, prosocial behaviour. Ontogenesis, stages of human development, developmental theories. Psychological specifics in individual development stages. Psychology of health and disease. Stress theory. Psychosomatic relations. Psychological influence of hospital environment, psychology of pain and fear. Psychology of selected diseases and disorders. Mental processes and states. Personality - self-knowledge. Personality traits, values, attitudes. Coping with one's emotions. Meaning of life, life goals. Social group, team work, cooperation. Prosocial behaviour, evaluation. Coping with manipulation, mobbing. Psychological specifics of people in individual developmental stages. Coping with stress, relaxation techniques. Attitude to disease. Coping with pain and fear. Training of complex model situations focused on specifics of healthcare psychology.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with fundamentals of psychology with a focus on general, developmental, social and healthcare psychology.
Students are able to analyse mental activities, processes, and states. They are capable using self-knowledge to understand other people. Students understand specifics of human psychology in individual developmental stages, in health and in disease. Students are aware of the influence of hospital environment of an individual, and are able to eliminate its negative impact. Students are capable of using basic techniques of psychological approach both to healthy and sick individuals.

Assessment methods and criteria

Completion of compulsory 50% attendance at the lectures. The fulfillment of compulsory 80% of active participation in exercises. Successful completion of a written or oral examination according to the course. guarantor's decision. Fulfillment of the seminar work.
