Introduction to hygiene and epid. Health status of the Czech population. Determinants of health status. Health indicators. Promotion and protection of public health. Health promotion projects. Determinants of health: smoking - prevention, cessation programmes. Work stress, burnout syndrome. Monitoring, prevention. Nutritional hygiene - direct and indirect risks. Nutritional hygiene - indirect risks. Drinking regime. Alternatives to drinking water choices. Epidemiology of infectious diseases. Process of spread of infection (source, routes of transmission, susceptible individual). Prevention of hospital acquired infections - operating rules. Epidemiology and prevention of cardiovascular infections. Epidemiology of cancer. Occupational hazards and occupational diseases in healthcare workers. Alcohol, drugs - prevention and withdrawal programmes. Hygienic aspects of the environment. Air contamination. Occupational hygiene. Categorisation. Occupational prevention. Hygiene of children and adolescents. Child nutrition. Injury prevention. Unilateral workload. Compensation for excessive or unilateral workload.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the possibilities of health protection and promotion. The basics of environmental and occupational hygiene in relation to the health of exposed persons, the epidemiology of infectious and non-infectious diseases, nutritional hygiene and the issue of lifestyle risk factors will be mentioned.
The learner will be able to orientate himself/herself in the field of health protection and promotion in the workplace with particular reference to hospital hygiene. The learner will also be oriented in the prevention of selected civilisation diseases.
