Course content
The subject of health psychology, the development of medical thinking, models of health and illness 20th and 21st century, the biopsychosocial model of health and illness. Psychosocial risk factors, the basic problems of psychosomatics, a comprehensive treatment of the disease. The psychosomatic patient from the perspective of salutogenesis, a basic psychosomatic care. Biopsychosocial factors affecting health and illness, challenging situations and significant life events. Disease as a challenging life situation, a chronic disease, managing the illness. Methods of psychological intervention in the promotion of health. Group intervention programs, self-help groups in prevention and therapy. Mental hygiene in helping professions, risk factors. Burnout syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome. Behaviour and a healthy lifestyle. The psychosomatic patient from the perspective of salutogenesis, basic psychosomatic care, psychological care for psychosomatically sick. The psychology of nutrition, the behavioural aspects of human eating behavior. Mental hygiene in helping professions, risk factors. Mental crisis, acute crisis, chronic crisis. Burnout syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic issues of psychology of health and illness and the application options in the prevention, therapy and rehabilitation of clients (patients) in the framework of comprehensive care.
Student is practically ready for implementation of the psychosocial interventions programmes for selected risk groups of the population, with an emphasis on behaviour leading to health. The emphasis is on linking the theoretical knowledge about salutogenesis with the outputs to the therapeutic and preventive care.

The fulfilment of compulsory attendance at lectures and seminars. Written test or oral exam fulfilment according to course guarantor decision.
