Basic concepts and principles in palliative care. Symptoms of the terminal phase of the illness. Ethics and legal aspects in palliative care. Psychological strain in palliative care. Biological needs of terminally ill patients. Psychological needs of terminally ill patients. Social needs of terminally ill patients. Spiritual needs of terminally ill patients.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim is to familiarize students with basic concepts and topics in the field of palliative care and to prepare them for situations that may arise in the care of terminally ill and dying patients in medical and social institutions and in the home environment.
Students know the symptoms of the terminal phase of illness and appropriate nursing interventions. Students are able to plan, lead, and evaluate the nursing process for the terminally ill and dying patients within a multidisciplinary team.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Home assignment evaluation
Fulfillment of the mandatory 50% attendance at lectures. Fulfillment of the mandatory 75% attendance at seminars. Passing a written test.
