Course content
The basic concepts of the field of palliative care. The Role of the social worker palliative care. Stages of dying from a holistic perspective. Communication in palliative care. Pain in palliative care. Bio-psycho-social needs of the dying and their families. Ethical dilemmas and cultural differences. Grief and work with the bereaved. Services in the field of palliative care. Interactive exercises with the problems of thanatology. Practical training of communication. Discussion of ethical dilemmas, analyses of specific cases. Training in working with the family of a dying man. Normal grieving. Pathological mourning.

Learning outcomes
The aim is to acquaint students with the basic concepts and topics in the areas of palliative care and their application to the practice of the medical social worker.
Student knows the basic concepts in the field of palliative care. Student is oriented in the issues of care for the dying, the bereaved, can apply relevant methods of social work when working with the dying and their family members.
