Course content
Introduction to the study of applied ethics with a focus on healthcare. Overview of ethical theories and ethical reasoning in healthcare. Basics of political ethics. Basics of economic ethics. Basics of bioethics and ecological ethics. Principles of medical ethics, informed consensus. The beginning and the end of life from the point of view of medical ethics.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the methods and ways of applied ethics focused on the field of health care. The introductory lectures include an introduction to the theoretical foundations of ethics and the basics of applied ethics with its division into different areas, especially in the field of medical, political, and economic ethics. In particular, political and economic ethics will focus on social principles and the search for criteria for responsible ethical conduct in contemporary economic practice. Within the framework of bioethical topics, the lectures will convey to students the necessary knowledge and ethical criteria to assess important issues of ecology, the beginning and the end of (not only) human life and to develop a critical attitude towards them. An important area of medical ethics will be the issues of human rights and patients' rights in the search for informed consensus.
Students are able to and manage independent critical reflection on ethical problems, respecting the complexity of these problems and the diversity of possible answers.
